Catalonia
Catalonia is a small region in the north-east of Spain. It borders France and Andorra to the north, the region of Aragon to the west and Valencia to the south, and the Mediterranean sea to the east.
Geographically small, it is very diverse both in landscapes and culture. From the cliffs and coves in the north coast, Costa Brava, to the smooth and vast beaches in the south. From de mountains in the Pyrenees to the plains in the center. From the curious mountainous formations of Montserrat to the inactive volcans of Garrotxa… The best known city is Barcelona, but there are interesting things to visit all around.
This Spanish region has been producing wine since the beginning of times. From the most known areas such as Penedès or Priorat to others not so well know such as Costers del Segre or Pla de Bages, wine has been in the center of Catalan life as part of our diet and culture. The differences in soil, orography and climate make for very distinctive wines. There are amazing wines and average ones, but what has happened in the past twenty years in Spain and also in Catalonia is that the overall quality of the wines produced has improved dramatically.
We created Catalan Wine after travelling and living abroad for some time. We have tasted, seen and experienced the good in other parts of the world and we feel the good in Catalonia deserves to be tasted and seen and experienced much more than it is. Because we are locals, we know some things that are not internatioally known but that should be and those are the kinds of things that we want to show on our wine tours.
Although Catalonia and Barcelona are one of the main touristic destinations in Spain, there are still many places and things to be discovered.
